Most insurance coverage allows for preventative care. We accept Aetna, AmeriHealth, Cigna, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Oxford, United Health Care, and Medicare. 

Coverage may vary by individual policy, but we check all that out for you in advance, plus we handle the billing to your insurance company. You are only responsible for your copay which is due at the time of service. In cases of medical referral, we maintain open communication with your doctor.

If you live in NJ but have a health plan not mentioned above, we may be classified as an “out of network provider”. Under those circumstances, you will be responsible for the fee at the time of service.

A certain amount of that fee may be reimbursed to you by your insurance company or apply toward your deductible once you submit a claim. We will provide you with the proper form to send to the insurance company for potential reimbursement. 

Many insurance companies cover nutrition counseling even if you have not been diagnosed by a physician with a medical condition. Whether you are looking for preventative/general nutrition counseling, weight management, or have a medical condition, your insurance company may cover the cost. 

You can find out about your benefit by calling the 800 number on the back of your card and asking what kind of nutrition services are covered. Ask them if nutrition counseling is covered, you can provide the procedure codes 97802 and 97803. Ask if any diagnoses are restricted and if the diagnosis code Z71.3 is covered for preventative counseling. Ask how many visits are covered; do you need preauthorization or a referral; is there a copay and if so, how much; do you have a deductible to meet before insurance pays; document the call reference number and date of the call.
